3,000 illegal TKIs face deportation
JAKARTA: Taiwan says it will search for and deport 3,000 Indonesians believed to be working illegally in the island nation.
"Their (the migrant workers) contracts have expired and they are reluctant to come home so they will be deported ...," a Ministry of Manpower and Transmigration spokesman was quoted by Antara as saying on Tuesday.
There are currently 97,000 Indonesians working in Taiwan, but the presence of the illegal migrant workers, whose whereabouts are still unknown, has prompted Taiwan to stop hiring Indonesians.
The ministry urged the illegals to return home voluntarily.
To facilitate their return to Indonesia, the migrant workers were advised to report to local manpower offices or Indonesia's Trade and Economic Office in Taipei. --Antara
