300 people protest RI church burnings

MANILA (AFP): Some 300 Filipinos rallied outside the
Indonesian embassy here Wednesday to protest at mob violence
against Christians and the ethnic Chinese minority in Indonesia.

The protesters lit candles and laid wreaths outside the
embassy in the Makati financial district in memory of those
killed in the riots last May as well as in the latest violence
over the weekend.

"Stop Burning Churches," one placard read. The protesters also
accused the Indonesian military of instigating the attacks.

About 50 policemen stood guard nearby during the peaceful,
one-hour rally organized by the local chapter of the World
Against Racism Movement.
