Road damage in Buleleng, Bali, has reached up to 300 kilometres. The Buleleng Regency Government will carry out phased repairs on the hundreds of kilometres of damaged roads. Head of the Buleleng Public Works, Spatial Planning, Housing, and Settlement Areas Agency, I Putu Adiptha Ekaputra, stated that all damaged road sections have been mapped and are included in the government’s repair planning. “We at Public Works are aware of everything; the government is not neglectful. The government already has its mapping, but due to limited financial conditions, it is taking a super-priority approach. The most damaged and most strategic roads are being handled first,” Adiptha said on Tuesday (23/6/2026). Adiptha stressed that the Buleleng Regency Government is not neglecting the issue of damaged roads amidst the development of the Singaraja Zero Point project. Moreover, the problem of damaged roads in Buleleng has often been a public complaint. “We are addressing the face of our city without abandoning our obligations. In fact, the budget for road repairs is actually larger,” Adiptha explained. The Buleleng Regency Government, Adiptha said, has allocated approximately Rp 70 billion for road repairs in 2026. Additionally, the irrigation sector is receiving budget support of around Rp 40 billion. This year, the regency government is targeting the repair of 30 kilometres of damaged roads. Four work packages have been contracted and are currently underway. Furthermore, five other locations will soon be executed. Several sections that had previously been in the public spotlight, such as Jalan Pattimura and the Liligundi area, have also been included in this year’s handling list. Adiptha revealed that due to budget constraints, the Buleleng Regency Government is only able to repair 30 kilometres of road each year, despite Buleleng having a total road length of 1,136 kilometres. He asked the public to understand the region’s limited fiscal capacity. “One can imagine, we have to maintain 1,136 kilometres of roads from west to east. Because the budget is limited, phases are certainly necessary,” Adiptha clarified. In an effort to accelerate the handling of damaged roads, the Buleleng Regency Government is also relying on synergy with the Bali Provincial Government through Special Financial Assistance. This support significantly helps accelerate the repair of several priority road sections. In addition to permanent repairs, the Buleleng Regency Government has also formed the Sigap Merah Putih Task Force, which is tasked with carrying out emergency repairs on potholes to reduce the risk of accidents. Adiptha also addressed the numerous complaints about damaged roads circulating on social media. He appreciated the public’s concern and confirmed that all road damage has been recorded in the government’s data and planning. “We understand that netizens care deeply about our roads. But actually, everything has already been mapped. We are just waiting for the handling phases according to priority and budget capability,” Adiptha said. On the other hand, the road repair process was temporarily hampered by rising material prices, particularly asphalt. This condition caused a number of previous tender processes to attract minimal interest because the contract values were deemed no longer in line with market prices. “The price of asphalt has risen quite significantly, from around Rp 12,000 to Rp 20,000 per kilogram. Contractors became reluctant to bid. That is why we re-evaluated the cost estimates,” Adiptha explained. After adjustments were made, road repair projects are now progressing, with four contracts already effective and several other locations set to be worked on throughout 2026.
