30 Sudinhub Jakarta Selatan clamp down on illegal parking in Semanggi
Jakarta (ANTARA) - A total of 30 personnel from the South Jakarta Suku Dinas Perhubungan (Sudinhub) cracked down on vehicles parked illegally on Garnisun Street, Karet Semanggi, Setiabudi District. ‘In carrying out the crackdown on illegal parking, 30 personnel from Sudinhub, Satpol PP, TNI, and Polri, were deployed,’ said Ebenezer Lumban Tobing, the Operational Controller of Sudinhub South Jakarta, in Jakarta on Wednesday. Ebenezer said the crackdown is a firm measure against motorists who violate parking regulations. During the operation, which lasted about two hours, they found 24 two-wheeled vehicles parked illegally on road verges and footpaths. ‘The action we took today involved hauling away the offending motorcycles using a net,’ he said. ‘We hope this will act as a deterrent to illegal parking offenders who frequently disrupt residents’ activities and other users of public facilities,’ he added. Meanwhile, a resident, Rizki Alwansyah, appreciated the officers’ move to regulate illegal parking behind Plaza Semanggi. He said public facilities such as the footpaths provided by the government, especially for pedestrians, must be protected and not used for illegal parking. ‘If possible, this should be intensified, especially during busy hours to prevent congestion,’ he said. The public is urged to comply with the rules and not park their vehicles indiscriminately. Towing actions are also carried out upon requests from district areas that identify vehicles parked illegally and violating the rules. The crackdown is also carried out under DKI Jakarta Regional Regulation Number 8 of 2007 on public order.
