30-Metre Cliff Collapses, Threatening 10 Homes in Cisarua
BANDUNG BARAT — Ten homes in Kampung Cisarua Hilir, RT 04/03, Sadangmekar Village, Cisarua District, West Bandung Regency, West Java, are at risk from a landslide. A cliff close to the residential area collapsed at around 7.30pm on Wednesday (28 October 2026).
An assessment by the West Bandung Regency Regional Disaster Management Agency (BPBD) found that the landslide was about 30 metres high and up to 40 metres wide. Yoga Ali Imbran, head of the agency’s emergency and logistics division, said the ground at the site remained a threat to nearby homes. Cracks extending for about 50 metres had also been found around the landslide area.
As a result, the occupants of one house, two households comprising the families of Eyep and Ma Ari, had to leave. They took shelter at relatives’ homes to avoid the risk of further landslides.
“The landslide threatens 10 homes occupied by 11 households. The occupants of the house belonging to Mr Eyep and Ma Ari have now taken shelter at relatives’ homes,” Yoga said when contacted on Thursday (29 October 2026).
The BPBD suspects the landslide was triggered by heavy rain in the area. Relatively unstable soil has also increased the risk of ground movement near the homes.
BPBD officers have assessed the site to determine the impact and map potential hazards for residents. Neighbourhood officials have also been urged to remain alert and organise night patrols to monitor conditions around the landslide site.
“Residents living in high-risk areas are being asked to move away and take shelter at the nearest relatives’ homes if it rains again, particularly if signs of ground movement appear or cracks widen,” he said.
