A portion of SMP Muhammadiyah Cilibur school building and village road infrastructure in Cilibur Village, Paguyangan District, Brebes Regency, Central Java, collapsed due to a landslide on Sunday 8 March 2026 at approximately 08.20 WIB. The landslide occurred after soil on the slope behind the school shifted and dragged the school building structure and surrounding road infrastructure down until they collapsed.

Landslide material was carried down into the Longkrang River below the incident site. As a result, the village road access connecting Cilibur to Beran, which serves as the only route to Bumiayu, was completely severed and made impassable for vehicles.

Teams from the Brebes Regional Disaster Management Agency (BPBD) responding to the site confirmed there were no fatalities from the incident. The head of the National Disaster Management Authority’s (BNPB) Centre for Disaster Data, Information and Communication, Abdul Muhari, stated that extreme weather affected Brebes and Purbalingga regencies on Friday 6 March 2026. In Brebes, 38 households were impacted and in Purbalingga, 93 households were affected with housing damage in various categories.

“Additionally, a landslide occurred in Brebes Regency on Friday (6 March) affecting approximately 176 households or 546 people. A total of 142 residents were evacuated and 143 homes were damaged, comprising 52 heavily damaged homes and 91 moderately damaged homes. Currently, communal kitchen services and healthcare services continue to be provided to evacuees.”
