30 July Marks Pramuka Movement Pledge Day: History and Celebratory Messages

Hari Ikrar Gerakan Pramuka is observed every 30 July. Referring to an explanation from the National Kwartir (Kwarnas) of the Pramuka Movement, Hari Ikrar Gerakan Pramuka is observed every 30 July to commemorate the moment when various scouting organisations in Indonesia pledged to merge into a single Pramuka Movement body. The event took place on 30 July 1961 at the Istana Olahraga Senayan in Jakarta. At that time, representatives from various scouting organisations pledged to unite in order to build a stronger and more focused national scouting movement. This pledge became an important milestone in the formation process of the Pramuka Movement, before the organisation was officially introduced to the public later that same year.

Based on history published by the National Kwartir of the Pramuka Movement, the formation of the Pramuka Movement began with the issuance of Presidential Decree Number 238 of 1961 concerning the Pramuka Movement. During the unification process, dozens of scouting organisations that had previously stood separately agreed to merge into one national organisation. This agreement was realised through the Pramuka Movement Pledge, which was read out on 30 July 1961. Since then, 30 July has been remembered as Hari Ikrar Gerakan Pramuka. This commemoration serves as a reminder of the importance of unity, the spirit of service, and the commitment to building the character of the younger generation through scouting education.
