30 hectares of lakes built in BSD

TANGERANG (JP): Lakes covering a total area of 30 hectares will be built at the Bumi Serpong Damai satellite city in Tangerang.

Johanes Luntungan, a spokesman for Bumi Serpong Damai, said the establishment of the lakes is aimed at creating water catchments to anticipate the danger of floods and at the same time supporting the creation of a residential area linked to environment preservation.

"The lakes will be scattered in a number of sectors whose areas are being developed," he said, adding their locations are designed in such a way that as well as functioning as water catchments they can also be used as recreation sites for nearby residents.

He said that in order to help reduce the danger of flooding, the complex will also be equipped with gutters, with a total length of 116,384 meters and 5,879 meters of main drainage ditches.

Luntungan said that out of 6,000 hectares earmarked for the construction of the housing complex, 934 hectares have so far been developed.

"As of September, the developer has built over 7,000 houses of the 70-square-meter type, 1,182 houses of the 71 to 249-square- meter types and 721 houses of the 250-square-meter type," he said.

He said the developer is currently offering 350 plots of land for luxurious houses near its golf course, ranging from 500 to 900 square meters.

At this stage the developer is only selling plots of lands. The construction, including design and landscaping, is up to the buyer, he added. (13/hhr)
