JAKARTA, KOMPAS.com - The Badan Bank Tanah (BBT) has recorded that around 30,000 hectares of abandoned land in Indonesia have entered its management portfolio from a total potential of around 35,000 hectares identified. Acting Head of BBT, Hakiki Sudrajat, said that most of the abandoned land that has been managed is used for plantation activities. “What we have managed from the abandoned land is from around 34,000; of the 35,000 identified, around 30,000 hectares,” Hakiki Sudrajat said at an event in Jakarta on Friday (6 March 2026). He added that about 80 percent of the total land that has been managed is used for the plantation sector. “Yes, most of it is for plantations, around 80 percent,” he continued. Hakiki explained that the utilisation also takes into account spatial planning conditions and regional characteristics. “The spatial plan currently has some land in the mountains, in the middle of forests. Who lives there? So it is managed for plantations,” he said. Meanwhile, around 20 percent of the land is used for other sectors such as industry, housing, tourism, and even hotel development. “The 20 percent is for industry, housing, hotels, and tourism,” Hakiki said. He added that land management will continue by coordinating with the Ministry of Agrarian Affairs and Spatial Planning/National Land Agency (ATR/BPN). “We will hold a coordination meeting with ATR (Kementerian ATR/BPN) for data collection,” he said. The BBT aims to secure a state capital injection (PMN) of around Rp 400 billion this year to develop land seized in the BLBI case in the Lippo Karawaci area. The funds will be used as part of developing the land bank, including potential for affordable housing. He noted that the PMN plan is currently in the government regulatory stage and awaits further processing.
