Chairman of the PDI Perjuangan Central Executive Board, Said Abdullah, views the deaths of three TNI soldiers who were part of the United Nations peacekeeping force in Lebanon as a moment for the international community to act more firmly against Israel.

According to him, concrete steps are needed as proof that the UN is still functioning in maintaining global peace.

Said expressed condolences over the fall of the victims from the TNI contingent serving in the UN peacekeeping mission. He emphasised that the incident serves as a serious warning to the international community to strengthen protection for peacekeeping forces.

“We mourn the eight TNI soldiers serving as UN peacekeeping forces in Lebanon. Three of our soldiers have died and five others were injured,” said Said in his statement quoted on Friday (3/4).

According to Said, the attack on UN peacekeeping forces indicates a serious violation of international law.

He noted that since October 2024, Israeli troops have been recorded as carrying out at least 25 attacks on UN peacekeeping properties and personnel in Lebanon.

This series of incidents, he continued, shows impunity for Israel’s military actions, including those in the Gaza Strip, Palestine.

He assessed that the international community has not yet shown a strong enough response to stop the repeated humanitarian violations.

“The deaths of three TNI soldiers and injuries to five others must become a momentum for the UN to act more firmly and concretely against Israel as proof that this organisation is still functioning,” he stated.

Through the Security Council, the International Court, the UN Secretary-General, and nations must take several concrete steps.

“Israel’s repeated actions in Lebanon and Gaza are clear evidence of violations of the UN Charter and crimes against humanity,” said Said.

Therefore, Said called on the UN Human Rights Council, and/or sovereign states to bring Israel before the International Criminal Court (ICC) for Israel’s crimes that meet the four elements simultaneously:

  1. The crime of genocide, as regulated in Article 6 of the Rome Statute;

  2. Crimes against humanity, as regulated in Article 7 of the Rome Statute;

  3. War crimes, as regulated in Article 8 of the Rome Statute;

  4. The crime of aggression, specifically regarding the crime of aggression, which is not yet regulated in detail in the Rome Statute, and the Court will exercise jurisdiction after a provision is adopted in accordance with Articles 121 and 123 of the Rome Statute.

Furthermore, PDIP, he said, demands direct accountability from Israel for the deaths of the three TNI soldiers and injuries to five others in the form of: acknowledgement of the attack, an apology in an official UN forum, and readiness to be held accountable through ICC judicial mechanisms.

“Israel’s existence has become a burden on the world, calling on various countries to cut diplomatic relations and cooperation in various fields with Israel. Isolate Israel in relations with various nations in the world,” said Said.

On this occasion, Said also mentioned the UN General Assembly session on 12 September 2025, which took a stance on the two-state solution, Palestine and Israel as two standing states.

“Recognition of Palestine as a sovereign state by 142 members of the UN General Assembly out of 193 present countries,” said Said.

Thus, continued Said, the Secretary-General and the UN Security Council must as soon as possible implement that decision.

“This step is to anticipate Israel’s actions based on the cursed doctrine, feeling as the chosen nation, and considering the territory of Israel and its surroundings as the promised land, so they feel entitled to expand Israel’s power,” said Said.
