Indodax is strengthening public understanding of digital security through anti-phishing education. The initiative encourages the public to be more critical in verifying information before accessing digital platforms or contacting customer service.

Indodax Chief Executive Officer William Sutanto stated that cybercrime patterns are now shifting. Previously, perpetrators attempted to breach technological systems; now, they increasingly exploit user negligence to gain access to accounts and personal information.

“Currently, criminals are not always trying to breach complex systems. They are instead looking for easier ways, namely manipulating users,” he said in a statement in Jakarta on Thursday.

He explained that this is done so that users voluntarily provide account access, OTP codes, or personal information through fake links or numbers. Therefore, digital security literacy must become part of the public’s daily habits.

William added that one increasingly common modus operandi is the misuse of search engines to display fake customer service numbers, imitation sites, and dangerous links resembling official company channels.

Many victims feel safe because they found the information through a search engine, even though a top position in search results does not always guarantee the authenticity of the information.

Data from Tiger Research shows that social engineering accounted for 74.7 per cent of total losses due to cybercrime, particularly in the Web3 industry, in the first quarter of 2026, an increase compared to 64.3 per cent in 2025.

The methods used include phishing, fake customer service, fake websites and telephone numbers, as well as dangerous links resembling official channels that appear in internet search results.

Meanwhile, based on data from the National Cyber and Crypto Agency (BSSN), Indonesia faced approximately 5.5 billion cyberattacks throughout 2025, a sevenfold increase from the annual average for the 2020-2024 period.

The Financial Services Authority (OJK) and the Indonesia Anti-Scam Centre (IASC) recorded total losses due to financial transaction fraud reaching Rp9.1 trillion from 2024 to January 2026.

“Therefore, we urge the public not only to search, but also to verify. Always ensure you access the official website and use the official communication channels that have been provided,” said William Sutanto.
