3 expats held for embassy blast
BANGKOK (AFP): Thai police said on Thursday they had arrested
two American citizens and a Vietnamese in connection with
Tuesday's bomb attack on the Vietnamese embassy which was
allegedly carried out by an armed opposition group.
"All of the bombers are in the Free Vietnam Movement and are
American citizens," police Lt. Gen. Chatt Kuldiloke told
reporters, adding that the three were ethnic Vietnamese.
A United States embassy official said the mission had not yet
been notified of any arrests of American citizens in connection
with the case.
"We have not been informed that any American citizens have
been arrested," she said, adding that if Americans had been
arrested, Thai authorities had 48 hours to let the embassy know.
Late last month 37 people were jailed for up to 20 years in Ho
Chi Minh City for a wave of abortive sabotage attacks said to
have been organized by the Free Vietnam Movement from Thai and
Cambodian territory.
