3 children find grenades in Cimone
TANGERANG: Three children playing on a garbage dump
in Cimone, Tangerang, found a live pineapple grenade last Sunday
morning.
According to local chief of detectives Insp. Kustanto, the
grenade was played with by the three children, who did not
realize at all that it was an explosive.
Luckily, local resident Muhlis, 60, who is also a retired army
officer, saw the grenade being handled by one of the children.
Muhlis quickly grabbed it and placed it on the ground before
calling the police, Kustanto said on Monday.
"This is a live grenade that could have exploded anytime,"
Kustanto quoted Muhlis as telling the three children, Asep, 9,
Nana, 8, and Yogi, 7.
He said as the three children ran home scared, Muhlis
then reported the discovery to the police and
several officers who arrived minutes later took
the grenade to Tangerang Police Headquarters.
However, Kustanto was unable to confirm where the grenade
had come from, saying that it had been taken to the city police
headquarters for further examination. --JP
