3,800 Free Takjil at Jogokariyan Mosque Draw Crowds
Jogja’s Jogokariyan Mosque once again handed out thousands of free takjil during Ramadan. Residents flock to the streets along Jalan Jogokariyan to sample the takjil. During Ramadan, the mosque’s takmir regularly organises Kampoeng Ramadan Jogokariyan. In addition to distributing 3,800 free takjil each day, the annual event also features an afternoon market with hundreds of food stalls run by local SMEs.
DetikJogja observed on Wednesday (4 March 2026) at 16:45 WIB that visitors had already crowded Jalan Jogokariyan. As the buka puasa time approached, the crowd grew larger.
The menu served today at Jogokariyan Mosque was rice soup with braised chicken. From just after Asar prayers, the mosque’s administrators distributed the buka puasa meals on plates, inviting visitors to take takjil around 17:00 WIB.
The takjil collection area was divided, men to the west and women to the east. In an orderly manner, visitors took the takjil and sought places to eat around the mosque.
One visitor from Bantul, Feni, said it was his first time enjoying the buka puasa atmosphere at Jogokariyan Mosque. He and his sister said they had long wanted to break their fast there.
“Yes (first time), I’d wanted to come for a long time but only now could I get to Jogokariyan. I did go last year though,” Feni told detikJogja at Jogokariyan Mosque this afternoon.
Another visitor from Bantul, Jagad, said he had several times enjoyed the atmosphere and takjil provided by Jogokariyan Mosque.
“The menu is great every day, it’s been good since last week. I come here for takjil and to hang out,” Jagad said.
This year, Jogokariyan Mosque is preparing 3,800 portions of free takjil each day. The amount is higher than last year’s 3,500 portions. The buka puasa menu also varies daily.
“For the full menu, you can check the Instagram account @masjidjogokariyan,” he added.
In addition to the free buka puasa meals, Kampoeng Ramadan Jogokariyan is known for hundreds of SMEs selling various takjil in the evening market. About 360 stalls were set up along Jalan Jogokariyan from 16:00 WIB.
