3,761 Joint Personnel Deployed to Secure Protest in Central Jakarta
A joint force of 3,761 personnel has been deployed to secure and serve a protest action held by several groups at various points in Central Jakarta on Monday. Central Jakarta Metro Police Chief, Senior Commissioner Reynold EP Hutagalung, stated that the security measures were implemented as a form of police service to respect the public’s right to express their opinions in public. “We have prepared personnel to ensure the activities of conveying aspirations proceed safely and orderly,” he said. He emphasised that the approach taken by officers would be humanistic and persuasive. Reynold also instructed all personnel on duty to maintain professionalism and not be provoked by situations on the ground. “We respect the rights of the community, but we urge all participants to maintain order, avoid anarchism, and comply with the applicable regulations,” he added. Meanwhile, the police have prepared situational traffic engineering around the protest locations to anticipate vehicle congestion. Motorists are advised to seek alternative routes. The Central Jakarta Metro Police confirmed that security will be maintained until the entire series of activities is completed. The public can contact the Police Call Centre on 110 if they require assistance or wish to report security disturbances.
