A total of 3,761 joint personnel have been deployed to secure demonstrations held by several groups of protesters at various points in the Central Jakarta area on Monday (22/6). According to police data, an action by the Central Board of the Indonesian Islamic Student Movement (PB PMII) and several other mass elements is being held in the Monas area. Additionally, a protest is being staged by the National Board of the National Coalition for Agrarian Reform (DPN KNARA) and other mass elements in front of the Parliament Building. Central Jakarta Metro Police Chief, Senior Commissioner Reynold E P Hutagalung, stated that the security operation is a form of police service in maintaining security while respecting the public’s right to express opinions in public. “We have prepared personnel to ensure that the expression of aspirations proceeds safely and orderly. We prioritise a humanist, persuasive approach and continue to prioritise the safety of the public and personnel in the field,” Reynold said in his statement on Monday. Reynold instructed all personnel on duty to maintain professionalism, not to be easily provoked by situations on the ground, and not to carry firearms or sharp weapons. “Carry out your duties with full responsibility. Serve the public expressing their aspirations properly according to procedure, and maintain solidarity in carrying out security,” he said. Reynold also urged protest participants to express their opinions in an orderly manner and not to take actions that could disrupt public order. “We respect the public’s right to express aspirations. However, we invite all protest participants to maintain order, avoid anarchy, and comply with applicable regulations,” he stated. Reynold conveyed that his party has also prepared situational traffic engineering around the protest locations to anticipate vehicle congestion. “We urge the public who will be passing around the protest locations to seek alternative routes. Traffic management will be carried out situationally based on developments in the field,” he said. Furthermore, the Central Jakarta Metro Police ensured that security will be maintained until the entire series of activities is completed to keep the public security and order situation safe and conducive.
