3,508 Foreign Tourists Utilise Daop 8 Train Services Throughout March 2026
PT Kereta Api Indonesia (Persero) Daerah Operasi 8 Surabaya has recorded 3,508 foreign tourists utilising train services during the Lebaran transportation period from 11 to 30 March 2026.
“This reflects the trust of foreign tourists in trains as a reliable mode of transportation for exploring various flagship destinations in East Java,” said Manager of Public Relations for KAI Daop 8 Surabaya, Mahendro Trang Bawono, in Surabaya on Tuesday (31/3).
During this period, the movement of foreign tourists was dominated by three main stations: Surabaya Gubeng Station with 1,539 tourists, Malang Station with 767 tourists, and Surabaya Pasar Turi Station with 668 tourists.
These three stations serve as strategic transportation nodes connecting inter-regional travel while acting as gateways to various favourite tourist destinations.
In addition to their proximity to city centres and tourist areas, these stations are integrated with various onward transport modes, such as city transport, taxis, app-based transport, and bus services. This intermodal integration provides convenience for tourists to continue their journeys in a practical, efficient, and comfortable manner.
“The high interest of foreign tourists in using trains is inseparable from KAI’s commitment to delivering services that prioritise safety, comfort, and punctuality,” he stated.
Various improvements continue to be implemented, ranging from ease of ticket purchases through digital platforms, cleanliness of facilities and infrastructure, to enhancements in customer service quality oriented towards user experience.
He noted that this positive trend serves as an indicator of the increasing competitiveness of train transportation services in Indonesia.
“The high number of foreign tourists using trains during the Lebaran transportation period shows that KAI’s services are increasingly trusted as a safe, comfortable, and efficient transportation choice. We remain committed to providing the best service with ever-improving standards to support tourist mobility,” he added.
Mahendro further stated that the connectivity of the train network directly linked to city centres and intermodal integration provides significant added value. This convenience not only enhances travel efficiency but also creates a more practical and enjoyable tourism experience for customers, particularly foreign tourists.
