3.5 Million Vehicles Predicted to Exit Greater Jakarta During Eid 2026 Holiday Exodus

PT Jasa Marga (Persero) Tbk has projected that the peak outbound traffic during the 2026 Eid holiday exodus will occur on 18 March, whilst the peak return traffic is expected on 24 March.

“An estimated 3.5 million vehicles are expected, with the peak outbound exodus occurring on 18 March. However, we anticipate traffic will begin building from this coming Friday,” said Jasa Marga Chief Executive Officer Rivan A. Purwantono during a media briefing in Jatiasih, Bekasi on Tuesday.

With an extended holiday period providing an ideal travel window, road users will attempt to time their journeys for comfort both during the outbound and return journeys. The peak return traffic is anticipated on 24 March, as travellers seek to balance family visits with commitments back in Jakarta.

According to Rivan, traffic distribution will vary across different routes: 28 per cent is expected to head towards Merak, 50 per cent towards the eastern routes including Cipularang, and approximately 20 per cent towards Bogor. The eastern route requires particular attention, with traffic further dividing into 57 per cent heading towards Trans Jawa and 42 per cent towards Cipularang. Notably, congestion at kilometre 66 typically occurs due to higher vehicle volumes — approximately 50 per cent — heading towards the Trans Jawa route.

Meanwhile, Transport Minister Dudy Purwagandhi stated that the heaviest outbound congestion is projected for 16-18 March based on traffic movement simulations. The government has proposed implementing a work-from-anywhere (WFA) policy to help mitigate holiday season congestion, which has received presidential approval.

The government plans to implement the WFA policy for five days during the Eid holiday period to distribute public movement and prevent traffic concentrations on specific dates.
