Jakarta, CNBC Indonesia - Deputy Interior Minister Bima Arya has emphasised that the actions of 3,000 civil servants (ASN) in Brebes, who reportedly did not come to work but were still recorded as present through the attendance application, constitute a serious violation of civil service regulations.

He stated that ASN proven to have committed the attendance violation will face firm sanctions, including dismissal.

“Wow, that clearly violates civil service rules. Of course, sanctions can be imposed, from reprimands to dismissal,” Bima stressed to the media when met at the National Development Planning Ministry/National Development Planning Agency (PPN/Bappenas) office in Jakarta on Thursday (7/5/2026).

Bima said that the manipulation of ASN attendance is a serious violation, so the Inspectorate will directly go to Brebes to conduct an inspection.

“Yes, we will study it, the Inspectorate will go there to Brebes. Because they are paid with public money. If they don’t come to work, it falls into the category of serious violations.”

Not only in Brebes, Bima may also conduct tracing in other regions regarding similar violations. In addition, the Interior Ministry will tighten supervision of the ASN attendance system throughout regional governments.

“Yes, it can. Over the years in Indonesia, ASN have been dismissed for not coming to work, proven. There are those who don’t come for a year, there are also. Then when it’s discovered, we dismiss them. There might be tolerance for those who are sick, but if it’s unclear, they must be dismissed,” he said.

Previously, Brebes Regent Paramitha Widya Kusuma, after the National Education Day (Hardiknas) ceremony at the Integrated Government Office (KPT) of the Brebes Regency Government, revealed that more than 3,000 Brebes ASN were caught manipulating attendance using an application for remote check-ins.

The large number of users was revealed by Brebes Regent Paramitha Widya Kusuma, after the National Education Day (Hardiknas) ceremony at the Integrated Government Office (KPT) of the Brebes Regency Government, on Saturday (2/5).

The tracing results by the BPKSDMD Team revealed around 3,000 out of 17,800 ASN who are users of the application. From that number, the majority are teachers and healthcare workers. Even some officials are using the application.

“Preliminary findings show 3,000 ASN users. There are healthcare workers and also some officials. The most are teachers and healthcare workers,” said Paramitha, citing Detik on Thursday (7/5/2026).

“We are tracing who is playing with that application. We have followed up. For two days we turned off the official application, and surprisingly there were still check-ins. And we were able to identify the names of ASN who used that illegal application,” she added.
