3,000 Brebes Civil Servants Who Manipulated Attendance Face Dismissal

Jakarta, CNBC Indonesia - Deputy Interior Minister Bima Arya has emphasised that the actions of 3,000 civil servants (ASN) in Brebes, who reportedly did not come to work but were still recorded as present through the attendance application, constitute a serious violation of civil service regulations.

He stated that ASN proven to have committed the attendance violation will face firm sanctions, including dismissal.

“Wow, that clearly violates civil service rules. Of course, sanctions can be imposed, from reprimands to dismissal,” Bima stressed to the media when met at the National Development Planning Ministry/National Development Planning Agency (PPN/Bappenas) office in Jakarta on Thursday (7/5/2026).

Bima said that the manipulation of ASN attendance is a serious violation, so the Inspectorate will directly go to Brebes to conduct an inspection.

“Yes, we will study it, the Inspectorate will go there to Brebes. Because they are paid with public money. If they don’t come to work, it falls into the category of serious violations.”

Not only in Brebes, Bima may also conduct tracing in other regions regarding similar violations. In addition, the Interior Ministry will tighten supervision of the ASN attendance system throughout regional governments.

“Yes, it can. Over the years in Indonesia, ASN have been dismissed for not coming to work, proven. There are those who don’t come for a year, there are also. Then when it’s discovered, we dismiss them. There might be tolerance for those who are sick, but if it’s unclear, they must be dismissed,” he said.
