288kg of Waste Collected During Three-Day Dropping Point Initiative in Tabanan

A total of 288.8 kilograms of waste was collected during a ‘dropping point’ initiative organised by Patra Desa, the Talov Community (Tabanan Lovers), and the TPS3R Sadu Kencana in the Tabanan city area. The activity took place over three days, from Friday (15/5) to Sunday (17/5).

Agus Sumberdana, a representative of Patra Desa, confirmed on Monday (18/5/2026) that total community participation reached 80 people. The collected waste consisted of various materials.

The breakdown of the collected waste includes 79.8 kilograms of flexible plastic (27.6 per cent), 43.3 kilograms of residue (15 per cent), 40.8 kilograms of mixed paper or duplex (14.1 per cent), 37.6 kilograms of dirty or mixed PET (13 per cent), 24.5 kilograms of books and cardboard (8.5 per cent), 21 kilograms of glass bottles (7.3 per cent), 6.25 kilograms of cans (2.2 per cent), and 35.55 kilograms of other waste (12.3 per cent).

“The dominant types of waste are flexible plastics, mixed PET, and mixed paper. These findings indicate that household waste reduction needs to focus on reducing single-use packaging and strengthening waste sorting systems at the source,” said Agus Sumberdana.

Agus explained that the activity aimed to socialise the methods and importance of sorting inorganic waste to the public. Furthermore, it is hoped that the dropping point model can be replicated by village and local governments.

According to him, the initiative also demonstrates that a data-driven approach is essential to support the planning, evaluation, and continuous improvement of community-based waste management systems.

“We are still discussing the next locations. However, we sincerely hope that a model like this can be continued by the government, particularly the Environmental Agency. We hope they are willing to adopt it,” he concluded.
