287 Foreign Nationals Named Suspects in Hayam Wuruk Online Gambling Den Case

The Criminal Investigation Agency (Bareskrim) of the Indonesian National Police has named 287 foreign nationals (WNA) as suspects in the online gambling syndicate case based in Hayam Wuruk, West Jakarta. Deputy Chief of Bareskrim, Inspector General Nunung Syaifudin, stated that a total of 322 foreign nationals were arrested in this case, but 35 others are still under investigation. “So out of the 322, 287 have been named as suspects, including 76 Chinese nationals, three Lao nationals, two Malaysian nationals, 15 Myanmar nationals, six Thai nationals, and 185 Vietnamese nationals,” Nunung said during a press conference on Friday (26/6). Nunung conveyed that his party has also seized a number of electronic items as evidence, including 594 mobile phones, 382 laptops, 179 monitors and computers, 11 Mac Mini units, as well as routers and other digital devices. In addition, investigators also seized evidence in the form of cash in rupiah and foreign currencies, along with hundreds of passports. “The Bareskrim General Crimes Directorate team has seized cash in rupiah and several foreign currencies with a total value, when converted, of approximately Rp8.7 billion, as well as 155 passports and hundreds of electronic devices,” Nunung stated. Furthermore, Nunung mentioned that his party is continuing to develop the case to trace the flow of funds, including exploring the possibility of applying money laundering charges. “We will continue to develop this case to trace the flow of funds, criminal assets, the role of the guarantor company for the foreign nationals, and to target the possibility of money laundering offences,” he said. Previously, Bareskrim raided the online gambling headquarters operated by hundreds of foreign nationals from various countries at the Hayam Wuruk Plaza Tower office building, Taman Sari, West Jakarta, on Saturday (9/5). The hundreds of foreign nationals were known to originate from various countries, including China, Vietnam, Laos, Myanmar, Malaysia, Thailand, and Cambodia.
