28,624 Civil Servants Submit Retirement Applications by March 2026
Jakarta – The State Personnel Board (BKN) has announced that progress on civil servant pension applications has reached 28,624 as of 5 March 2026, according to the BKN’s official social media account.
Of these, 28,498 applicants have received technical approval for their civil service pensions. The remaining applications are categorised as incomplete or non-conforming files (106 applications), whilst none fall into the category of not meeting requirements.
Compared to figures from 6 February 2026, the number of civil servants applying for retirement has continued to rise significantly. In the previous period, 15,932 civil servants had submitted applications, with 15,859 receiving technical approval. Only 46 applications were incomplete at that time, with none failing to meet requirements.
The retirement age threshold for civil servants is regulated by the type and rank of position held, as outlined on the BKN website. The general provisions are established under Government Regulation No. 17 of 2020, amending Government Regulation No. 11 of 2017 on Civil Service Management, which specifies the following retirement age thresholds:
— 58 years of age for administrative officials, senior expert functional officials, junior experts, and skill-based functional officials, including senior and junior researchers and engineers;
— 60 years of age for senior executives and senior expert functional officials;
— 65 years of age for expert functional officials at the highest level.
“In other words, the application of retirement age thresholds is determined by the type and rank of position held by a civil servant and does not apply uniformly across the board,” according to the BKN website.
Additionally, for civil servants holding functional positions, separate retirement age thresholds have been established by law for specific sectors. These include:
— 60 years of age for teachers;
— 65 years of age for lecturers;
— 70 years of age for expert researchers, expert engineers, and professors at the highest level.
These retirement age thresholds for functional positions in specific sectors are further regulated through legislation, including Law No. 14 of 2005 on Teachers and Lecturers and Law No. 11 of 2009 on the National System of Science and Technology.
