The Ministry of Religious Affairs (Kemenag) is strengthening national waqf governance through the acceleration of waqf land certification. As of April 2026, 287,162 plots of waqf land have been certified, with a total area reaching 276,106,802 square metres.

Specifically, in the first quarter of 2026, certified waqf land reached 1,688 plots covering 1,483,943 square metres. Director General of Islamic Community Guidance, Abu Rokhmad, stated that this achievement represents an important milestone in strengthening the protection of religious assets as well as an indicator of the success of cross-ministerial collaboration.

“This is not merely an administrative achievement, but a tangible manifestation of the state’s presence in protecting the community’s waqf assets. The synergy established between the Ministry of Religious Affairs and the Ministry of Agrarian Affairs and Spatial Planning/National Land Agency has proven capable of significantly accelerating the certification process,” emphasised Abu Rokhmad in Jakarta on Tuesday (21/4/2026).

According to him, the figure of hundreds of thousands of certified waqf land plots reflects a very significant economic and social strength. With an area reaching hundreds of millions of square metres, waqf has strategic potential to support community-based national development—from education and health services to community economic empowerment.

“Waqf is not only an instrument of worship, but also an instrument of development. This data shows that we have community assets on a very large scale. If managed productively and professionally, waqf can become one of the main pillars in strengthening the nation’s social and economic resilience,” he said.
