27 Homes in Tambora, West Jakarta, Destroyed by Fire with Rubble Littered Across Area

JAKARTA, KOMPAS.com - A fire destroyed 27 houses in a densely populated area on Jalan Krendang Barat Gang 2, RT 13 RW 04, Tambora, West Jakarta, on Thursday evening (28 May 2026).

Based on Kompas.com’s observations on Friday (29 May 2026), debris from the fire remained scattered across the residential area.

The affected homes now only have blackened brick walls and fragile structural frames remaining.

Bentong roof sheets, warped and rusted, lay scattered on the ground mixed with charred timber.

Police have set up barriers to restrict access near the rubble, as they continue investigating the fire’s exact cause. The unstable structures also pose a risk of collapse, potentially injuring residents.

Despite the police cordon, local residents, including children, gathered around the perimeter to sift through the remains of their homes.

Residents searched for salvageable metal items to sell. Some were seen moving within the debris area, attempting to recover belongings from the rubble.

Post-disaster response posts have been established around the site, including a health post by the DKI Jakarta Health Department’s Crisis and Emergency Health Centre (PK3D). This post is set up along the road near the residential area to address health concerns of affected residents.

In addition to the health post, logistical aid for displaced residents has begun to be distributed from a tent operated by the Social Affairs Department next to the PK3D post.
