27 HIV cases detected in C. Kalimantan

PALANGKARAYA, Central Kalimantan: The local health ministry office has recently detected 27 HIV cases in West Kotawaringin regency.

M. Leiden, from the local health ministry office, claimed that all those infected by the virus were Thai fishermen arrested for fishing illegally in Indonesian waters off the regency.

"They have tested positive for the HIV virus," he said.

He said he was coordinating with security authorities to prevent the Thai fishermen from having relations with sex workers in the regency to prevent the spread of the virus.

"The Thai fishermen will be repatriated soon after their case is processed to prevent them from visiting entertainment centers and night spots in the province," he said. --Antara
