268 flood-survivor households in Nagan Raya, Aceh, have begun occupying huntara
Nagan Raya Regency, Aceh — The Regional Disaster Management Agency (BPBD) of Nagan Raya Regency, Aceh, says that 268 of the 647 displaced households from the flash flood in Beutong Ateuh Banggalang District have taken up temporary housing (huntara) built by the government, including huntara erected by communities themselves.
“From the total of 647 displaced households, 268 households have occupied the huntara that has been built by the government, including huntara built independently by the community,” said Irfanda Rinaldi, the Head of the BPBD’s Implementation, to ANTARA on Sunday.
Irfanda said currently 379 displaced households are still occupying the evacuation tents previously assisted by BNPB.
In addition to the tents, survivors in the highland area also stay with their relatives while awaiting the completion of huntara that are currently being worked on by BNPB through respective vendors.
Irfanda said the construction of temporary housing in Beutong Ateuh Banggalang comprises two schemes: vendor huntara (centralised barracks) and self-built huntara on land belonging to residents.
He added that after the temporary housing is completed, all evacuees will immediately occupy the government-provided huntara.
Although 379 households remain in tent shelters, BNPB and the Nagan Raya Regency government continue to supply the needs of the disaster survivors at the evacuation sites, as part of demonstrating to the survivors that to date the central government together with the regional government remains present to meet basic needs at the evacuation sites, Irfanda Rinaldi said.
