263 High-Risk Inmates Transferred to Nusakambangan
The Directorate General of Corrections (Ditjenpas) of the Ministry of Immigration and Correctional Services (Kemenimipas) has transferred 263 inmates in the high-risk category from six provinces to the Super Maximum Security Prison on Nusakambangan, Central Java. Director General of Corrections Mashudi stated that this transfer is a direct instruction from Minister Agus Andrianto to cleanse prisons (lapas) and state detention centres (rutan) of drugs. “We reiterate that there must be no room or gap whatsoever for drugs. We prevent and block them, and if found, we will certainly eradicate them,” Mashudi said in his statement, as reported by Antara on Friday (24/4/2026). Of the 263 high-risk inmates transferred to Nusakambangan, 44 come from North Sumatra and 103 from Riau. “(On Thursday) night around 21:50 WIB, the 263 high-risk inmates were received by prison officers at Nusakambangan,” he said. Mashudi explained that the transfer and reception of inmates at each prison were carried out in accordance with applicable standard operating procedures (SOP). Subsequently, maximum and super maximum levels of security and guidance will be implemented. He noted that Minister Agus Andrianto has repeatedly called for zero drugs and mobile phones in prisons and detention centres. “Whoever is proven to be involved will certainly face severe legal sanctions,” he said. “In total, we have transferred 2,554 high-risk inmates to Nusakambangan,” he revealed. Mashudi emphasised that this step is a repressive, rehabilitative, and preventive action to protect prisons and detention centres from the dark circulation of drugs. “Once again, I convey that this transfer is not only a repressive action, but also a rehabilitative and preventive step so that prisons and detention centres are optimally protected from the spread of violating behaviour, one of which is our concern: eradicating violations related to the misuse and circulation of drugs,” he explained. He added that, besides drugs, the high-risk inmates transferred to Nusakambangan were also prompted by other causes of violating behaviour.
