26 Houses in Southeast Aceh Damaged by Flash Floods

Flash floods hit two villages on Saturday (9/5) night around 10:00 PM WIB. The river’s water discharge increased after the area was lashed by heavy rain since the afternoon. “The river’s water discharge rose, carrying materials such as rocks and logs that blocked the bridge,” said the Head of the Aceh Disaster Mitigation Agency (BPBA) Bahron Bakti, as quoted by detiksumut on Sunday (10/5/2026). Due to the blocked river, water along with logs and mud overflowed into residents’ settlements, covering the national road. Access from Kutacane to Medan was paralysed until this morning. According to Bahron, the flash flood caused 4 houses to be severely damaged, 15 moderately damaged, and 7 lightly damaged. Following the incident, the BPBD team was deployed to the location for cleanup using 1 piece of heavy equipment. “The water has started to recede. The number of flood-affected victims is 155 people. There were no fatalities in this disaster,” he stated.
