Jakarta (ANTARA) - A total of 259 of 968 disaster-affected families in Aceh Tamiang regency, Aceh, have received temporary housing allowance (DTH) from the government through the National Disaster Management Agency (BNPB).

BNPB Head Suharyanto stated in Jakarta on Wednesday that the 259 families are part of the total 968 disaster-affected families and prospective DTH recipients in Rantau district whose homes suffered severe damage due to flash flooding in late November 2025.

The DTH assistance is provided to families whose homes have been heavily damaged and who choose to rent housing or temporarily stay with relatives until their permanent homes are completed.

β€œThe DTH assistance will be distributed until the permanent housing is completed,” said Suharyanto, whilst assuring that in addition to DTH, the BNPB is also distributing basic necessities and gift packages for children to help meet the basic needs of affected families during the recovery period and whilst observing Ramadan.

Suharyanto, who also serves as Deputy Chair II of the Sumatra Post-Disaster Rehabilitation and Reconstruction Acceleration Task Force, explained plans for the development of permanent housing for affected residents, which can be chosen through two schemes: reconstruction at the original location (insitu) or centralised permanent housing.

Meanwhile, Aceh Tamiang Regency Government continues to focus on accelerating the construction of temporary housing (huntara) for residents still in evacuation tents.

Preliminary data shows that 2,248 temporary housing units have been completed and are expected to be occupied by residents before they move into the permanent housing being prepared by the government.
