Two hundred and fifty-two students in East Jakarta are suspected of suffering from food poisoning after consuming free nutritious meals (MBG). The DKI Jakarta Provincial Government will respond seriously to this issue.

“The DKI Jakarta Provincial Government is deeply concerned and is taking this case of suspected food poisoning very seriously,” said Special Staff to the Governor of DKI Jakarta, Chico Hakim, when contacted on Sunday (10/5/2026).

Chico assured that his side is continuously coordinating with the DKI Jakarta Health Office and BGN. He mentioned that samples of the food suspected to have caused the poisoning of hundreds of students have already been taken.

“One menu was reported to taste sour. Food samples have been taken for laboratory testing at the health office, with results expected next week,” he said.

Furthermore, Chico stated that the affected students are currently being treated. “We ensure that all students receive the best care until they recover,” he added.

He further mentioned that the DKI Jakarta Provincial Government will evaluate SPPG units in Jakarta, particularly SPPG Pulogebang 15, which supplies meals to the poisoned students. He noted that so far, only 167 SPPG units in Jakarta meet the hygiene certificate requirements.

“SPPG (Pulogebang 15) has been operating since 31 March 2026 and is still in the process of obtaining SLHS (Hygiene and Sanitation Fitness Certificate) in accordance with BGN Regulation No. 4/2026. The environmental inspection results do not yet fully meet the requirements, so the SLHS process is ongoing. Currently, out of a total of 609 SPPG units in Jakarta, only 167 have SLHS,” he said.

Previously, the DKI Jakarta Health Office recorded that 252 students experienced symptoms of suspected food poisoning after eating the MBG menu in the Pulogebang area, East Jakarta. Preliminary suspicions point to the source being the stuffed tofu wonton menu, which was said to have a sour taste.

Head of the DKI Jakarta Health Office, Ani Ruspitawati, said that her side, along with the East Jakarta Health Sub-District Office, has conducted guidance and supervision of SPPG Pulogebang.

“The Health Office through the East Jakarta Health Sub-District Office has carried out guidance and supervision of SPPG Pulogebang. The forms of guidance and supervision include environmental health inspections, training for food handlers, and issuance of SLHS,” Ani said when confirmed on Saturday (9/5).
