25 Young Offenders at LPKA Karangasem Trained in First Aid
A total of 25 children under the guidance of the Special Child Development Institution (LPKA) Class II Karangasem received first aid education from the Indonesian Red Cross (PMI) of Karangasem Regency. They participated enthusiastically in the Education Echo activity held on Tuesday (15/9/2026).
The activity was part of the celebrations marking PMI’s 81st anniversary. PMI Karangasem deliberately targeted children housed at LPKA to provide them with basic knowledge and understanding of first aid.
Chairman of PMI Karangasem, I Gusti Ngurah Setiawan (Gus Sombi), said the activity was part of PMI’s effort to socialise Red Cross knowledge, particularly first aid, to all elements of society, including children in the institution’s care.
“Today’s activity was deliberately held at LPKA, because these children genuinely need knowledge and understanding of first aid,” said Setiawan on Tuesday (15/9/2026).
The material presented in the education echo activity covered various matters related to first aid. The education is expected not only to provide knowledge to the children during their time at LPKA, but also to serve as preparation for them once they are released.
“We hope that once this has been conveyed to the children, it will have a positive impact on them. They will have basic knowledge of the Red Cross, namely first aid,” said Setiawan.
He also hoped that this basic knowledge could be applied in daily life, whether while still in detention or after returning to their respective homes. At the very least, the children will be able to help their families and communities when facing situations requiring first aid in the future.
Setiawan noted that Red Cross education activities do not only target children at LPKA, but are also regularly and continuously delivered to various community groups, including professionals and the business world.
“Yesterday we conducted it for professionals, because this basic knowledge of the Red Cross is very important,” said Setiawan.
Through such activities, PMI Karangasem hopes public understanding of first aid will become more widespread, so that this basic knowledge can serve as a means to help others in emergency situations.
One of the children at LPKA Class II Karangasem, GAR, said he was very pleased to receive first aid education from PMI Karangasem. Several of the things taught would be quite helpful when encountering emergency situations in the future.
“The first aid education is quite good and will certainly be useful for us, especially as I will be released in a month’s time,” said GAR.
Acting Head of LPKA Class II Karangasem, I Ketut Suryawan, expressed appreciation for the education activity organised by PMI Karangasem. According to him, the activity can broaden the children’s knowledge of first aid while also fostering compassion for others.
“We greatly appreciate PMI’s concern for the children here, and we hope the education provided today can serve them well in the future,” said Suryawan.
