25 percent of schools in disrepair

PALEMBANG, South Sumatra: Some 25 percent out of a total of 332 elementary schools in Palembang are in disrepair as a result of age and natural disasters.

Sumayyah, the head of the Palembang municipal government's education office, said that the local government was allocating Rp 8.2 billion (US$ 863,158) for the repair of the dilapidated buildings.

The repairs will be carried out shortly, and it is expected that all the schools will have been repaired by the end of this year. -- JP
