Residents of Selayar, South Sulawesi, discovered 25 kilograms of cocaine suspected to have been smuggled from Colombia. Five kilograms of cocaine were found by fishermen in Bontosikuyu District, whilst a further 20 kilograms were found in Bontomanai District.

“Clearly, in the vicinity of the goods, we found imported shoes from Colombia with ‘Colombia’ written on them. According to local residents, some people did obtain these shoes and sold them for 200,000 rupiah,” said Aipda Suardi Andre, Head of Public Relations at Selayar Police, as reported by detiksulsel on Saturday, 14 March 2026.

Aipda Suardi explained that police were still investigating the circumstances surrounding the discovery of dozens of kilograms of cocaine. “So it is possible it was smuggled, for instance, hidden in used shoes with cocaine inside. But perhaps he had an accident at sea or something, but we cannot confirm it,” he added.

Suardi previously explained that the 5 kilograms of cocaine were found and reported by fishermen to Selayar Police. Meanwhile, the other 20 kilograms of cocaine found in Bontomanai were reported to the Selayar Military Command (Kodim), which then coordinated with and handed them over to Selayar Police.

“It has all been handed over (to Selayar Police), the District Commander handed it over around 10 p.m. (last night),” he explained.

The discovery of the 25 kiogram cocaine package remains under further investigation. Police also suspect the narcotics package originated from the same source.
