25 Countries Offering Visa on Arrival for Indonesian Passport Holders
Jakarta, CNBC Indonesia - Indonesian passport holders have a number of country options they can visit without having to arrange a conventional visa through an embassy before departure. One such convenience is the Visa on Arrival (VoA) facility.
Based on the Passport Index 2026, the Indonesian passport currently has a Mobility Score of 89 with a reach of around 45% of the world. Indonesian passport holders are recorded as having visa-free access to 42 destinations, Visa on Arrival to 40 destinations, and Electronic Travel Authorization (eTA) to 7 destinations.
Meanwhile, 109 destinations still require Indonesian passport holders to have a visa.
Visa on Arrival is a visa that can be obtained by travellers after arriving in the destination country through designated entry points. This mechanism differs from a regular visa, which generally must be applied for and approved before departure.
VoA also differs from visa-free facilities. Under the visa-free scheme, travellers can enter the destination country without needing to obtain a visa as long as they meet the applicable requirements.
Under the VoA scheme, however, travellers still need a visa to enter the destination country. But the visa can be obtained upon arrival at the designated border checkpoint, and in some cases travellers need to pay a visa fee.
A number of countries now also combine VoA facilities with electronic Visa or eVisa. This means Indonesian citizens have the option to arrange a visa electronically before departure or obtain it upon arrival, depending on each country’s regulations.

The Passport Index records that in total there are 40 destinations in the Visa on Arrival category for Indonesian passports. Some of these accesses are available in combination with eVisa facilities.
Although more practical than a regular visa, travellers still need to pay attention to each country’s requirements. Conditions may include passport validity, return or onward tickets, proof of accommodation, financial capability, and visa fee payment.
