South Jakarta’s Social Services Department (Sudinsos Jaksel) has rounded up 24 People in Need of Social Services (PPKS) along Fatmawati Raya Road in Gandaria Utara Village, Kebayoran Baru District, and placed them in a social shelter.

“All PPKS have been sent to a shelter in Kedoya, West Jakarta,” said Bernard Tambunan, Head of South Jakarta Social Services Department, on Sunday.

He explained that the 24 individuals, comprising 13 women and 11 men, will be documented regarding their places of origin, reasons for being in Jakarta, and family conditions.

He hopes they can be trained to develop work skills for a better and more secure future.

“If they are Jakarta residents, we will train them to have skills for entrepreneurship or employment. However, if they are from outside Jakarta, the Social Department can repatriate them to their home regions,” he added.

Bernard urged the public not to give money to PPKS on streets or sidewalks as it could cause crowds and disrupt public order.

“I also urge migrants to Jakarta to have proper skills so they don’t become PPKS,” he said.

Meanwhile, Kebayoran Baru District Head Rachmad Mulyadi stated that the operation followed public complaints via a viral video about the prevalence of PPKS at night.

“We are grateful for the viral incident as it provided input for our area to conduct outreach and provide assistance,” he said.

Mulyadi explained that 75 joint personnel from Satpol PP, South Jakarta Social Services Department, TNI, Polri, FKDM, and other relevant units were deployed during the operation, which lasted until early morning.

He urged the public to channel assistance through official channels to ensure it reaches those in genuine need and complies with regulations.

“We request that donors send aid through official institutions such as Baznas (Bazis). Insha Allah, the aid will reach those who truly need it,” Mulyadi said.
