24,000 Illicit Cigarettes Intercepted by Jayapura Customs in Sentani

Jayapura Customs has successfully intercepted 24,000 sticks of illegal cigarettes suspected of being sent through a courier service provider (PJT). The enforcement action took place during surveillance activities at the Trigana Air Cargo area, Yabaso Street, Sentani District, Jayapura Regency, on Monday (27/7).

The operation was initiated following reports regarding the suspected shipment of tobacco-based excisable goods that failed to meet regulatory requirements via a courier service. Acting on this information, the Jayapura Customs Surveillance Team coordinated with Trigana Air Cargo officials to inspect 33 packages of tobacco products at the location.

Physical inspections revealed two packages containing 1,200 packs of ‘Retro Bold’ machine-rolled clove cigarettes (SKM), totaling 24,000 sticks. These items were suspected of lacking the required excise stamps or potentially using counterfeit stamps. The total value of the seized goods is estimated at Rp35,640,000, with the potential loss to state revenue saved amounting to Rp17,904,000.
