A total of 237 inmates at correctional facilities (lapas) and detention centres (rutan) in East Nusa Tenggara (NTT) have been proposed to receive special holiday remission in 2026. Of this number, two inmates have been proposed to receive special remission for Nyepi Day.

The Regional Office of the Directorate General of Corrections (Ditjenpas) NTT submitted the proposal from a total of 3,094 inmates across all correctional facilities and detention centres in the NTT region.

The Head of the Regional Office of Ditjenpas NTT, Ketut Akbar Herry Achjar, explained that only inmates meeting the specified requirements have been proposed for sentence reduction through special holiday remission.

“Out of a total of 3,094 inmates, those meeting the requirements we propose to receive special holiday remission for Nyepi and Eid al-Fitr number 237,” Akbar said on Tuesday (10 March 2026).

Akbar detailed that special Nyepi Day remission has been proposed for two inmates, whilst special Eid al-Fitr holiday remission has been proposed for 235 inmates.

“The proposal for special Nyepi Day remission is for two inmates. Meanwhile, for Eid al-Fitr holiday remission there are 235 inmates,” he explained.

He added that these figures remain proposals, as the data has been submitted to the Ministry of Law and Human Rights for further review.

“We are proposing these figures for now. We do not yet know whether the ministry will approve this exact number or if there will be changes,” he added.

For comparison, in 2025 a total of 232 inmates in NTT received special holiday remission for Nyepi and Eid al-Fitr.

Meanwhile, in 2026 the total inmate population at correctional facilities and detention centres across NTT was recorded at 3,094 persons, an increase of ten compared to 2025, which had 3,084 inmates.
