234 SRT 2 Banjarbaru students build character in new academic year

A total of 234 students at Sekolah Rakyat Terintegrasi (SRT) 2 Banjarbaru, South Kalimantan, have begun building character and familiarising themselves with their new educational environment through the School Environment Introduction Period (MPLS) for the 2026/2027 academic year. The activity took place at the SRT 2 Banjarbaru Multipurpose Hall on Jalan Batu Besi, Landasan Ulin Timur, Landasan Ulin District, on Saturday (15/8), and was also part of the centralised online opening of the third wave of MPLS.

Banjarbaru Mayor Erna Lisa Halaby said the existence of SRT is part of the government’s effort to ensure children receive equal educational opportunities as well as space to develop their potential and character. “This People’s School is tangible proof of the government’s presence to take responsibility for freedom in education, so that all children of Banjarbaru have equal rights and opportunities to progress and be free from powerlessness,” she said.

Lisa said MPLS is the initial stage for students to adapt to a new environment, recognise their potential and talents, and build confidence to undertake the educational process seriously. “School is a place to grow. Here students may dream, children may have the highest aspirations,” she said.

She advised all students to make the most of their learning opportunities, respect teachers, care for friends, maintain discipline and uphold the good name of the school and the city of Banjarbaru.

SRT 2 Banjarbaru has also prepared various facilities to support the educational process and student life, including classrooms, dormitories, dining halls and an assembly hall, as well as ensuring basic needs such as water and electricity are available. These facilities are expected to create an educational environment that supports students in learning while developing independence and character during their education at SRT 2 Banjarbaru.

With the start of MPLS, the 234 SRT 2 Banjarbaru students are expected to make the school environment a space to grow, achieve their aspirations and prepare themselves to become a generation that contributes to Banjarbaru Emas, South Kalimantan and Indonesia.
