A total of 234 motorcycles were subjected to a valve-core removal operation (OCP) for illegal parking in the Sentra Primer Barat (SPB) area of Kembangan Selatan Urban Village, Kembangan District, on Thursday (6/8).

Agus Prasetyo, Head of Operations at the West Jakarta Transportation Agency (Sudishub), said the sweep of illegal parking was carried out on several roads in the SPB Kembangan area, including Jalan Puri Indah Raya, Puri Harum, and Jalan Puri Ayu.

“As a result, 234 two-wheeled vehicles found parked on road shoulders and pavements were subjected to OCP,” Agus said when confirmed in Jakarta on Thursday.

The activity, involving around 50 joint personnel from Sudishub, Satpol PP, the Police and the TNI, is a follow-up to the directives of Jakarta Governor Pramono Anung and the Head of the Jakarta Transportation Agency to carry out continuous enforcement against illegal parking.

“We plan to carry this out in various locations. Today’s target is the CNI Kembangan area,” he said.

In addition to illegally parked vehicles, the agency also targeted street vendors (PKL) operating on pavements. Besides violating parking regulations, illegal parking also has the potential to harm the public by causing congestion as it takes up road shoulders, as well as disturbing pedestrian comfort.

“We will continue to intensify enforcement. To prevent spillover onto the roads, we also urge commercial areas to provide adequate parking space,” he said.

He noted that illegal parking in the SPB Kembangan or CNI area has been repeatedly addressed but often reappears. “We hope that building managers in the CNI area can facilitate parking space so that employees and visitors do not park their vehicles in undesignated places,” Agus said.
