As the second week of Ramadan 2026 approaches, public enthusiasm for traveling using train transportation is starting to show a significant increase. “The surge in Lebaran ticket purchases has been high since the first week of Ramadan, and we predict it will increase even more in the second week of Ramadan,” said Manager of Public Relations of KAI Daop 6 Yogyakarta, Feni Novida Saragih.
PT KAI has prepared a total capacity of 525,350 seats to accommodate the surge in passengers during this year’s Eid al-Fitr. The company also operates 12 additional trains departing from stations in the Daop 6 area, consisting of 10 additional long-distance trains and 2 Motis (Motor Gratis/Free Motorcycle) trains.
Feni revealed that the booking process is still ongoing and they are monitoring the data movement every day. She also highlighted the trend of peak bookings, which currently falls in the period after Lebaran. Currently, the highest sales of long-distance train tickets are occurring on H+3 Lebaran or Tuesday, March 24, 2026, with a total of 21,217 tickets sold in one day.
Daily occupancy data shows an interesting fluctuation where in the early period of the Lebaran Transportation, namely March 11, 2026, as many as 2,509 seats were sold or 13 percent occupancy, followed by March 12 with 3,369 tickets (17 percent), March 13 with 4,806 tickets (23 percent), March 14 reaching 7,061 tickets (34 percent), and March 15 with 5,926 tickets (28 percent).
The trend continued on March 16 with 5,876 tickets sold (28 percent), March 17 with 7,619 tickets (36 percent), March 18 with 9,512 tickets (45 percent), March 19 with 8,090 tickets (39 percent), March 20 with 6,027 tickets (30 percent), and March 21 reaching 6,822 tickets (34 percent).
Entering the peak period, occupancy soared starting March 22, 2026, with 13,216 tickets sold (66 percent) and reaching its peak on March 23 with 19,954 tickets (100 percent) and March 24 exceeding the initial capacity to 101 percent with the sale of 21,217 tickets.
Meanwhile, on March 25, 19,688 tickets were sold (94 percent), March 26 with 17,988 tickets (27 percent), March 27 with 17,242 tickets (82 percent), March 28 with 17,378 tickets (83 percent), and March 29 reaching 17,179 tickets (82 percent).
Towards the end of the transportation period, the number of bookings began to decline on March 30 with 9,591 tickets (46 percent), March 31 with 5,124 tickets (26 percent), and ended on April 1, 2026, with 2,048 tickets sold or 10 percent occupancy.
Seeing that the availability of seats is starting to decrease on the favorite dates, Feni urged prospective passengers not to postpone their travel plans. “So that they don’t run out of tickets,” she said.
In addition, she advised customers who have not yet obtained tickets on their desired dates to use the connecting train feature on the Access by KAI application or look for alternative schedules to increase their chances of getting a seat.
