23 women apply as busway drivers

JAKARTA: TransJakarta Busway Management said on Monday it had received applications from 23 women hoping to be hired as busway drivers.

"Two of the candidates are university graduates, seven received associate degrees and the rest graduated from high school," the management's head, Irzal Z. Djamal, said in a press statement on Monday.

Irzal said he hoped the new recruits would represent the busway as well as the current drivers.

He said the candidates had diverse backgrounds, including driving trucks and taxis.

The management plans to hire 15 women to drive buses on the busway route between Blok M in South Jakarta and Kota in West Jakarta. They will earn a monthly salary of about Rp 2 million (US$225), plus meals and housing. --JP.
