23 NU Regional Boards Meet Gus Yahya in Jakarta, Here's What Was Discussed
Jakarta - As many as 23 Nahdlatul Ulama Regional Boards (PWNU) met with PBNU General Chairman Yahya Cholil Staquf, or Gus Yahya, on Tuesday (28/4/2026). According to nu.or.id, three key points were raised. First, regarding accelerating the implementation of the 35th PBNU Congress at the end of July or beginning of August 2026. “In line with the PBNU Plenary Meeting results on 29 January 2026. If by August 2026 the Congress has not been held, then PWNU and NU Branch Boards (PCNU) will express a vote of no confidence in PBNU,” said West Java PWNU Chairman KH Juhadi Muhammad, quoted by Kompas.com on Monday (4/5/2026). Second, they requested that PBNU consistently implement the decisions of the PBNU Syuriyah and Tanfidziyah Daily Meeting regarding the finalisation of national consultation (munas) committees, major conference (konbes), congress, as well as accelerating the resolution of official decrees (SK). These three points, he continued, are important aspects that must be carried out by PBNU. These points had also been conveyed to PBNU Rais Aam KH Miftachul Akhyar on Monday night (27/4/2026). Gus Yahya stated that the plan is to involve masyayikh or senior clerics in the plenary meeting to determine the National Consultation of Ulama (Munas Alim Ulama) and Major NU Conference (Konbes) for setting the date and venue of the 35th Congress. “That’s why since the beginning of Ramadan last, I have requested that the plenary be held, because the plenary is the forum to bring in the senior masyayikh as mustasyar-mustasyar. Hopefully, we can expedite that plenary meeting and soon set targets for munas-konbes and congress,” he said. He also explained that preparations for the 35th NU Congress are continuously being refined. Other preparations regarding SK for PWNU and PCNU are also being pushed through the Organisation, Cadreisation, and Membership (OKK) Division up to the secretary general.
