As many as 23 packages suspected to contain cocaine were found on Pasir Putih Kahuripan Beach, Giligenting Subdistrict, Sumenep, East Java. The case is still under police investigation. The discovery of the cocaine packages was made on Pasir Putih Kahuripan Beach, Lombi Timur Hamlet, Gedugan Village, Giligenting Subdistrict, Sumenep, on Monday (13/4). The packages were subsequently handed over to the East Java Regional Police (Polda Jatim). East Java Police Chief Inspector General Nanang Avianto stated that the find represents one of the largest narcotics seizures in mid-2026. Nanang explained that the cocaine packages were initially discovered by residents who were holidaying and then reported to the police. “Around 11:00 WIB, a resident with initials D was holidaying on Pasir Putih Kahuripan Beach, Gadugan Village, Gili Genting Subdistrict, and saw several plastic packages branded ‘Bugatti’ scattered along the beach,” said Nanang during a press conference at East Java Police Headquarters, as reported by detikJatim on Thursday (16/4/2026). In response to the resident’s report, personnel from Gili Genting Police Station immediately headed to the location. Officers found nine packages still neatly arranged inside a thick grey tarpaulin, while dozens of others were scattered along the beach sand. A total of 23 packages were secured by officers in the initial stage. “This (grey tarpaulin bag) was specifically designed for delivery via waterways,” Nanang stated. Nanang explained that officers initially thought the items were methamphetamine. However, due to striking physical differences, he immediately deployed a team from the East Java Police Narcotics Directorate to Sumenep by helicopter for direct inspection. “The gross weight reaches 27.803 kilograms. After re-checking, the net weight is around 22.226 kilograms. Lab tests confirm that the find is pure cocaine,” explained the two-star general. This discovery is considered extraordinary given the extremely high price of cocaine compared to other types of narcotics. Nanang estimated the price per gram could reach millions of rupiah. “The price of cocaine on the black market reaches Rp 5 million to Rp 7 million per gram. If calculated total, the value of the 22 kilograms of seized cocaine could reach hundreds of billions of rupiah,” Nanang concluded. According to Nanang, his team has analysed the location and condition of the evidence. He suspects the packages had been floating in the sea for several days. “After that, we took it to the forensics lab in Sumenep, then we brought samples and the complete results from the forensics lab, after supervision by the Professional and Security Division and Narcotics, which we involved; from here it can be concluded that after deducting sand and packaging, from 23 boxes the net result is 22.226 kg,” he explained.
