23 Candidates Pass Selection for Supreme Court and Ad Hoc Judges
The President has been advised not to delay submitting candidates to the House of Representatives.
The Judicial Commission (KY) announced that 23 participants in the 2026 selection for Supreme Court justices and ad hoc judges have passed the health and personality assessments, earning the right to proceed to the fourth stage of selection: interviews to be held on 3–7 August 2026.
Deputy Chairman of the Judicial Commission Desmihardi said in Jakarta on Tuesday that a total of 42 candidates had undergone the health, personality and track record assessments, after being declared to have passed the quality selection stage in May 2026.
“As of 28 July 2026, based on the results of this selection, the Judicial Commission held a plenary meeting at 13.30 WIB to determine which candidates are declared to have passed,” said Desmihardi, reading out the announcement during an online session in Jakarta on Tuesday (28/7).
He explained that candidates who passed the health, personality assessment and track record stages will continue to the final interview selection, to be held from 3 to 7 August 2026 at the KY office.
Member of the KY’s Judge Recruitment Division, Prof Andi Muhammad Asrun, said the decision on the health and personality selection results read out by the KY is final and cannot be challenged.
He reminded all candidates declared to have passed that they are entitled to sit the interview selection according to the established schedule. Candidates who do not attend the interview will be disqualified.
“All decisions relating to the selection results are determined by the plenary meeting of Judicial Commission commissioners, not by individuals,” said Prof Andi.
The 23 candidates who passed consist of 19 prospective Supreme Court justices, two prospective ad hoc judges for human rights cases and two prospective ad hoc judges for corruption cases.
KY spokesperson Anita Kadir added that the health and personality selection components comprise the results of medical examinations, non-technical potential and competency assessments, and track record reviews.
Anita read out the names of the prospective Supreme Court justices entitled to sit the final interview: nine candidates for the criminal chamber, four for the civil chamber, three for the religious chamber and three for the special tax administrative chamber.
There are also two candidates for ad hoc judge positions in corruption cases and two in human rights cases. The successful candidates come from the ranks of judicial practitioners, academics, advocates, and staff and officials of the Supreme Court.
“Candidates who have passed are asked to ignore any parties promising to help them succeed or pass this selection process,” said Anita.
Candidates sitting the interview will be assessed by a panel comprising seven KY members, one statesman and one legal expert. The panel will explore their vision, mission, commitment, statesmanship, integrity and technical competence relating to mastery of formal and substantive law. The interview selection process can be watched live by the public via the Judicial Commission’s YouTube channel on the scheduled dates.
