JAKARTA, KOMPAS.com - The President Director of PT Jasa Raharja (Persero), Muhammad Awaluddin, revealed that the number of fatalities from accidents during the 2026 Eid homecoming period was recorded at 228 people, a 28 percent decrease compared to the previous year.

Awaluddin conveyed this during a press conference on Monitoring the Return Flow for Eid 2026 in Bekasi, West Java, on Thursday (26/3/2026).

He explained that their primary focus is to oversee accident incidents that cause fatalities.

“Fatality incidents decreased by 28 percent compared to the same 12-day period in this year’s Lebaran transport alert,” said Awaluddin.

In addition, Jasa Raharja has disbursed compensation amounting to Rp 11.2 billion to 224 fatalities out of the total 228 recorded victims. The compensation was given to the victims’ families and heirs.

Among the contributing factors are fatigue driving, long travel distances, and vehicle conditions.

According to him, several journeys even lasted more than 3-5 hours, which potentially increases accident risks.

Therefore, they will continue to monitor safety and traffic flow aspects until the end of the Lebaran transport alert period.

“We hope that until the end of this alert, the homecoming and return journeys can proceed safely, comfortably, orderly, and the public can return home safely,” concluded Awaluddin.
