SAMARINDA, East Kalimantan: More than 2,200 college graduates are unemployed throughout the province because their skills do not match with the qualifications needed by the job market.
"They are part of the 96,000 job seekers in East Kalimantan," governor H.M. Ardans said when opening a workshop of the provincial education office.
The governor said the unemployment rate in East Kalimantan is rising largely because of the mismatch between the job seekers' actual skills and the job openings.
He said of the 96,000 unemployed people, 73 percent are elementary school dropouts or graduates, 24 percent are junior high school graduates and the rest are those with senior high school and college educational backgrounds.
A breakthrough is needed to solve the unemployment problem, he said, Antara reported. (pan)
