220 student disaster survivors in Nagan Raya, Aceh, complete final exams
The old school buildings were rendered unusable, prompting the local government to set up emergency school facilities to prevent disruption to the pupils’ education. A total of 220 primary and secondary school students in Beutong Ateuh Banggalang sub-district, Nagan Raya Regency, Aceh, have successfully completed their final examinations, despite studying in emergency tents under constrained conditions.
“Alhamdulillah, despite being affected by the flash floods, the students in Beutong Ateuh remained enthusiastic about completing their exams even though they had to learn in temporary structures,” said Zulkifli, Head of the Nagan Raya Education Office, speaking in Suka Makmue on Wednesday.
The students currently studying at the emergency school include those from Beutong Ateuh State Junior High School, which has 54 male students and 43 female students, totalling 97 pupils. Meanwhile, SD Negeri 1 Beutong Ateuh Banggalang has 55 male students and 68 female students, totalling 123 pupils.
This measure was taken on the direct instruction of the Regent of Nagan Raya, Teuku Raja Keumangan, shortly after the disaster struck in December 2025. The Regent stressed to the education office that no schoolchild’s learning activities should be halted solely due to facility constraints.
Regarding teaching staff, Zulkifli confirmed that the majority of the assigned teachers are native to the Beutong Ateuh Banggalang area, ensuring a smooth adaptation process at the emergency school. In addition to successfully completing their exams, the student disaster survivors in this remote region have also been receiving special support to restore their psychological well-being following the disaster.
“Alhamdulillah, the children are cheerful once more and have accepted their current circumstances,” he said. The Nagan Raya Education Office confirmed that educational activities at the emergency school in Beutong Ateuh Banggalang are continuing to run well and smoothly despite existing limitations.
