22 Survivors Not Recorded in Virgo Transport 8 Ship Manifest
The Banjarmasin Class I Port Authority and Controller’s Office (KSOP) is still reconciling data for 22 passengers who survived the KM Virgo Transport 8 accident but were not listed in the ship’s manifest obtained from Surabaya.
Head of KSOP Class I Banjarmasin, Heri Purwanto, stated that according to the manifest data received from Surabaya, the total number of passengers recorded was 243. However, after documenting 108 survivors, it was discovered that 22 individuals were not present in the ship’s manifest.
“Based on the existing data, there are 22 people who are not in the ship’s manifest. Therefore, we are currently attempting to match the records,” said Heri during a press conference regarding the progress of the eighth day of the SAR operation for the KM Virgo Transport 8 accident at Trisakti Port, Banjarmasin, South Kalimantan, on Sunday night.
He added that the authorities are still verifying the data to determine whether there is an additional discrepancy in the total number of 243 people, or if there is simply a difference in how passenger identities were recorded between the ship’s manifest and the data obtained from the survivors.
He mentioned one possibility currently under confirmation is that passengers used nicknames when recorded in the manifest, whereas the data collected in Banjarmasin uses names as they appear on National Identity Cards (KTP). “Usually, passengers might use nicknames. It turns out that here, their names match their KTP. We are still trying to confirm this with our colleagues in Surabaya,” Heri explained.
As of the eighth day of the SAR operation, Sunday at 22:00 WITA, Basarnas confirmed that 118 victims have been found, consisting of 108 survivors and 10 fatalities. Meanwhile, 125 people remain missing out of the total 243 listed in the KM Virgo Transport 8 manifest.
KM Virgo Transport 8 was carrying 243 people when it set sail from Surabaya, East Java, towards Banjarmasin, South Kalimantan, on 12 September 2026. The vessel reportedly encountered bad weather and lost contact on 13 September 2026 at approximately 02:00 WITA, before being found capsized in the Masalembo waters, Java Sea, later that same day.
