214 Thousand Litres of Clean Water Distributed to Earthquake-Affected Residents in Flores

Minister of Public Works Dody Hanggodo stated that the Ministry of Public Works continues to strengthen the fulfilment of basic needs for communities affected by the earthquake on Flores Island, East Nusa Tenggara. As of 27 August 2026, Dody said, 214,000 litres of clean water had been distributed to 21,740 people in the regencies of Nagekeo, Sikka, Manggarai, East Manggarai, and Ngada.

“Clean water distribution has been carried out in stages since 19 August 2026 and targets various affected locations, ranging from evacuation posts, health facilities, schools, places of worship, government offices, to residential areas,” Dody said in a written statement in Jakarta on Saturday (29/8/2026).

Dody said that meeting clean water needs is one of the priorities in handling the emergency situation because it directly concerns the health and continuity of community activities.

“What is important now is how we can immediately serve the community’s needs. The Ministry of Public Works continues to move forward with data collection, inspection, and handling of affected infrastructure, including ensuring that the community’s clean water needs remain met during the emergency response period,” Dody said.

Dody stated that clean water services are now also being strengthened with the addition of distribution facilities in several affected areas. The Ministry of Public Works is operating 12 water tanker trucks and 27 public hydrants to expand service coverage, especially at evacuation sites and areas whose drinking water systems were affected by the earthquake.

In Manggarai Regency, clean water services at the Reok Sub-district Post currently have two water tanker trucks serving two main posts, namely the Golo Conggo Post and the Barangkolong Post. In addition, there is one water tanker truck belonging to volunteers serving clean water needs at independent posts in Reok Sub-district.

The two water tanker trucks have distributed 16,000 litres of clean water to the Barangkolong Post to meet the needs of 1,890 people. The Ministry of Public Works has also provided five public hydrants with a capacity of 2,000 litres, with three units placed at the Barangkolong Post and two units for the Golo Conggo Post.

“In East Manggarai, emergency service support is reinforced with four water tanker trucks and 17 public hydrants,” Dody continued.

At the same time, the Ministry of Public Works together with the regional government is identifying damage to the Drinking Water Supply System, including in Nampar Tabang Village, North Lamba Leda Sub-district. The Rana Mese SPAM transmission pipe has suffered a total break, while the Kota Komba SPAM is being handled through welding by the local technical implementation unit.

Throughout the period of 19–27 August, he continued, distribution in East Manggarai was carried out to a number of locations, including Pota, Nangambaur, Golo Lijun, and Nangambaling villages, as well as several posts in Borong and Sambi Rampas sub-districts.

Meanwhile in Nagekeo, clean water services were provided to a number of points in Aesesa Sub-district and other areas, including Danga Urban Village, the Regent’s Official Residence, Aeramo Regional General Hospital, the Berdikari Field Post, and several independent posts.
