211 Neighbourhood Units in Jakarta Classified as Slum Areas, Most in West Jakarta

JAKARTA - Indonesia’s Central Statistics Agency (BPS) records that there are still 211 rukun warga (RW) units in DKI Jakarta classified as slums based on the latest 2025 data collection, finalised in 2026. BPS head Amalia Adininggar Widyasanti stated that this figure results from the latest verification conducted jointly with the DKI Jakarta Provincial Government. “From the latest data collection carried out in 2025 and then the figures finalised in 2026, the identified slum RW units number 211,” Amalia said at Jakarta City Hall on Wednesday (6/5/2026). This approach is considered capable of producing more accurate data by utilising the latest technological developments. “This is the result of a combination of field data collection with satellite imagery results,” Amalia added. Meanwhile, Jakarta Governor Pramono Anung stated that the number of slum RW units in Jakarta has decreased compared to before. In 2017, the number of slum RW units was recorded at 445. Now, it has become 211 RW units, or a decrease of about 52 percent. “The reduction is approximately 52.58 percent,” Pramono said. Nevertheless, he acknowledged that there are still several areas that need attention, especially in densely populated regions such as West Jakarta and North Jakarta. “The most in the West, and indeed in the field, almost all RW units there,” Pramono said.
